A place where the Headquarters of Gyeongsangjwa-do Naval Force Commander was located.

Suyeong-dong is a place where the Headquarters of Gyeongsangjwa-do Naval Force Commander (presently, the regional naval headquarters) that took charge of defending the eastern sea during Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592 in the Joseon Dynasty, and its name Suyeong originated from ‘Su-gun’ meaning naval force and ‘Jeoldosa-yeong’ meaning the headquarters of Naval Force Commander. Boasting of time-honored history and loyalty, this area is known to be a place where the righteous spirits of virtuous men who dedicated their lives to defending their country during the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592 are still alive. 25 patriotic martyrs including the naval forces affiliated with the Headquarters of Gyeongsangjwa-do Naval Force Commander and residents who exercised their patriotism to heroically die in battles against enemy forces in emergency situation without a commanding officer after even high-ranking naval officers including the commander fled are considered to be “a torch of love for our homeland” blazing in our hearts forever. Every spring and fall, a commemorative ritual is performed to honor their patriotism in Altar of the 25 Heroes.

Suyeong not only boasts of various tangible or intangible cultural assets and natural monuments featuring Suyeongyaryu, Jwasuyeong Eobangnori, South Gate of Suyeongseong and Japanese Black Pine but it is also famous for diversified cultural activities conducted to inherit and advance traditional culture. Scenic Gwangalli Beach located in downtown area and Busan surrounded by gorgeous-looking Mount Geumryeon make it the Busan’s most pleasant living environment, and as various environmentally friendly rest areas such as magnificent and beautiful Gwangandaegyo Bridge, Millak Waterside Park, Millak Waterside Park and Gwangalli Beach Theme Street are adored by many citizens, it is emerging as “a city where everyone wants to stay and a tourist destination everyone wants to visit again”. It is also the center of the media where KBS and MBC are located and characterized by interesting foods and sights based on raw fish towns in Millak-dong and Namcheon-dong, cherry blossom streets and café streets. As the transfer stations of Subway Lines No. 2 and No. 3 serve as a traffic center, it is regarded as the center of tourism, information, commerce and distribution in the southeastern area of Busan.
