Suyeong Fortress South Gate (Busan Metropolitan City-Designated Tangible Cultural Asset No. 17)

If you go 50 meters in the direction of Yeonsan-dong along Yeonsan-ro (Local Road No. 28) at Suyeong Crossroads before taking the right hand side road, you would come across Suyeong Fortress South Gate 400 meter away. (Entry of Suyeong Sajeok Park)

Doubling as the front gate of Suyeong Sajeok Park, Suyeong Fortress South Gate was installed as the South Gate of the Headquarters of Gyeongsangjwa-do Naval Force Commander during the Joseon Dynasty. Today, only the arches at the back and front sides and the corner stone of Suyeong Fortress South Gate still remain, and there is a 10-m-long fortress wall as high as the corner stone on the left and right sides.

At the front, a coup of stone dogs (Bakgyeon) stand side by side around square stones with the same size as the cornerstone, and this type of stone sculptures installed next to the gate is unique not found in other regions. As the arch stone had been gradually subsided to face a risk of collapse as time goes by, it went through repair and maintenance in August 1993.
