Shrine of General Choi Yeong

Shrine of General Choi Yeong located at the center of a village in the east of Suyeong Paldo Market is a place where a female shaman hung a portrait of the general Choi Yeong and gave lessons. After her death, the village constantly suffered misfortune, so Mal-jun Tae, a community senior, demolished the old shed where the female shaman lived in May 1973 before building a shrine.

As the shrine became worn out, Gwangilsimbunghoe, a society of community leaders in Suyeong-dong, reconstructed the shrine through the use of building materials brought from Geumjeong Buddhist Temple without demolishing its crossbeam in January 1974.
It is a tile-roofed structure that is 2.14m in width, 1.98m in length and 2.6m in height. A portrait of the General Choi Yeong is hung inside the shrine, and a wooden spirit tablet that reads ‘A Spirit Tablet for General Choi Yeong’ is placed under it. Every year, a ritual is performed at 11 a.m. on the third day of the third lunar month under the supervision of Suyeong Community Association.
