Historic Site of Jeonggwajeong (Busan Metropolitan City-Designated Monument No. 54)

Jeonggwajeong originates from Gwajeong (a lookout shed in a cucumber field) that Seo Jeong, a civil servant loved by King Uijeong during the Goryeo Kingdom, built while he waited for the king to summon him when he lived in exile in his home town Dongrae in the wake of slandering by his opponents. The place where Seo Jeong built a pavilion and lived in exile at that time was a sandy bank in the middle of Suyeong River. Today, it has turned into a deep river.
The Historic Site of Jeonggwajeong was designated as Busan Metropolitan City Monument No. 54 on May 6, 2003. Currently, it is a small park located around San 6-2, Mangmi 2-dong featuring Octagon Pavilion, Play Court and Rest Court in addition to Jeonggwajeong Poem Monument.

The lyrics of Jeonggwajeong-gok (Song of Love for the Lord) was written on the front of Jeonggwajeong Poem Monument erected by Local Gentry Association in February 1985, and the introduction of Seo Jeong, a loyal subject during the Goryeo Kingdom, by Mu-jo Kim, a doctor of literature and the Chair of Jeonggwajeong Monument Promotion Committee, and the purpose of the erection of Jeonggwajeong Monument are indicated in its back side in addition to the fact that Jeonggwajeong Monument was established by Local Gentry Association.
