Yeongjuam Buddhist Temple (Traditional Buddhist Temple No. 8)

When it was founded in 1850, it was a small temple for monks practicing asceticism and called a cave temple as it was a cave. As it is surrounded by beautiful scenery and resembles Mount Yingzhou, one of the Three Legendary Mountains where Taoist hermits with miraculous powers stay to practice ascetism, as often mentioned in Chinese fables, it was renamed as Yeongjuam (similar pronunciation in Korean) when it was re-established on March 15, 1940.
As it boasts of a grand sight viewed from a Buddhist sanctuary enabling all visitors to open their mind and gentle waves visible in the distance stabilize people’s mind, it is known to be a Buddhist temple of asceticism surrounded by a clear and vital energy.
The current inner temple and the Hall of Guanyin were renovated, respectively, in 1975 and 2002. It was designated as Traditional Buddhist Temple No. 6 on December 5, 1988.
