Suyeong is the place that was responsible for naval defense in the East Sea at the time of Imjin War during Joseon Dynasty, and 「Left Gyeongsang-do Naval Jeoldosa Camp」 was located in Suyeong-dong as the present local headquarter of the Navy. The region was named as 'Suyeong' with "Su (Water)" taken from 'Sugun (Navy)' and "Yeong (Camp)" taken from 'Jeoldosa Yeong.'

This region is the home of living history and loyalty with "righteous spirit of 25 heroes" who faced death against Japanese invaders during Imjin War. After generals and commanders escaped from the scene, 25 patriots including naval forces of Left Suyeong and residents who fought against the enemies are the "torchlights showing love for the country" still alive in our hearts. As such, we pay our respects to their loyalty through rituals conducted twice every year in the spring and autumn at the "25 Heroes" enshrining tablets of their souls. Also, Suyeong has many tangible and intangible cultural assets as well as natural monuments such as Suyeong picnic, Left Suyeong fishing rite, South Gate of Suyeong Castle, and black pine. The city is also active with various cultural activities conducted for succession of traditional culture. In addition, the region provides the most pleasant residential conditions in Busan, surrounding by gifted Gwanganri Beach and beautiful Geumryeon Mountain. Many eco-friendly recreation spaces such as magnificent Gwangan Bridge, Minrak Waterfront Park, and Gwnaganri Beach Theme Street help settle the region as a "place to stay and revisit," loved by its citizens.

Furthermore, Suyeong is the center of mass media with broadcast stations of KBS and MBC. There are many food and attractions like Minrak and Namcheon raw fish villages, cherry blossom street, and cafe street. Transfer station connecting Lines 2 and 3 of Subway is the center of transportation. Suyeong is the central region of southeast Busan performing functions of tourism, information, commerce, and logistics.
